Chorleywood ProAm 16th June 2011

Chorleywood's heath suits Heath!

The tightly wooded heath of Chorleywood is not the sort of course young pros of today get to play much - but it obviously suited James Heath of Burhill winner of last weeks Pro-Am there.

Chorleywood Golf Club held their last Pro-Am twenty one years ago in their Centenary year , when a new course record of 61 was set by Mark Squire of Arkley . So, when Jamie Little, Chorleywood's touring pro, invited a dozen of his friends from the Challenge Tour to come along, there were high hopes that it might be broken. But the rain that the greens-staff had been praying for for so long made scoring very difficult.

The event was sponsored by Steven Frewin of bespoke holiday company "A Golfing Experience" and John England of Persimmon Golf- both members of the club - and participants got a chance to try out some of Persimmon's handsomely crafted woods - a golfing experience in itself!

James, with a more than creditable four under par 64, edged Mark Laskey (67) of The Shire into second place and they were the only two who managed to shoot below par!. The four which James fronted also won the team prize and local knowledge obviously played a part as the other three Andrew Cameron, Andrew Knight and Jeremy Gray are all either members or past members of the club. Andrew Knight also holds the amateur course record with a 66!
